Are my inventory’s data easy to manage ?

Is my inventory’s data easy to manage?

For many organizations, inventory management is a complex activity. As surprisingly as it seems, the complexity comes above all from the data itself: Finding the right source for downloading it in the IT system; having the right format to integrate it. Is it consistent and detailed enough? Are the updates done regularly? Is the integrity of data monitored?
An AOTMP research* provides us with a report highlighting some key considerations for building and maintaining a telecom inventory.
First of all, it is crucial to normalize data element definitions. Terminology sets are often different between customer and telecom service providers. Being clear and consistent with the understanding of the words used is a key point. Standardization makes the inventory related tasks simpler.
Then you need to determine the level of detail for data element acquisition. You need to identify what the objectives of the data use are.
Inventory is also and above all a question of flow, so make sure the MACD (Move, Add, Change & Delete) data and actions are well-updated, well-formed and properly documented.
Finally, you need to ensure that adequate resources are available in the on-going processes established for operating the inventory tools and tasks.
And obviously, monitoring the integrity of data and quality of processes is the basis for measuring the efficiency of your project.
